We are delighted to announce that Viviana Troya (BNC18) has been awarded a year-long studio bursary with One Thoresby Street, (OTS) Nottingham.
Viviana Troya recently completed her MA Contemporary Art Practice at the Royal College of Art, London. She holds a PG Diploma in Multimedia Creation and a BA degree in Painting from the University of Los Andes, Bogota. Recent exhibitions include Festival of Latin American Women in the Arts FLAWA, London, 2019; New Names, Miguel Urrutia Museum of Art (MAMU), Bogota, 2019; Beacon Project, Torrance Art Museum, Torrance, California, 2019; Strangelove Festival, Quarterhouse, Folkestone, 2019; All Your Diction [Solo show], Espacio El Dorado Gallery, Bogota, 2018. Selected awards include the Emerging Artist Award from the Government of Colombia, 2019; the Scholarship Beca para Colombianos en Proceso de Formación, Ministry of Culture, 2018; and Honorary Mention, Artist Residency Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, 2017.
Sophie Mackfall (alumnus 2016)was the third recipient of New Contemporaries' Studio Bursary with One Thoresby Street, Nottingham. From November 2018, Sophie has access to a free studio, membership to OTS and a support structure offered by their community of artists.
Sophie (b. 1984, York, UK) completed her BA Painting and Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art and MA Painting at the Royal College of Art, London. Exhibitions include ‘WHAT YOU DO, I LIKE’, Hospitalfield; ‘We Eat and Drink and Sit by Fires’, NEW STUDIO; and ‘The London Open’, Whitechapel Gallery. From 2009 - 2011 she was a Committee Member of Transmission Gallery, Glasgow.
Seungjo Jeong (alumnus 2016) was the second recipient of New Contemporaries' Studio Bursary with One Thoresby Street, Nottingham. Seungjo completed his BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2015) and his MA Painting at the Royal College of Art (2017). He had his first solo exhibition at the Hockney Gallery, London, UK (2016). Recent group shows include Korean Cultural Center, New York, USA; Kulturpalast Rabenstein, Chemnitz, Germany; Historic Centre of Athens, Athens, Greece (all 2017); ICA, London, UK; Bluecoat, Liverpool, UK; John Michael Kohler Arts Center, WI, USA; Arop, Antwerp, Belgium; Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, UK; Oriel Davies Gallery, Wales, UK; OUTPOST, Norwich, UK; Research House of Asian Art, Chicago, USA; Sejong Museum of Art, Seoul, Korea; Houses of Parliament, London, UK (all 2016).
Sophie Giller (alumnus 2015) was the first recipient of New Contemporaries’ Studio Bursary with One Thoresby Street, Nottingham. Sophie completed her BA Fine Art Painting at Camberwell College of Arts, London in 2014. Since exhibiting in Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2015, she has shown at The Assembly House, Leeds with BNC alumna Lydia Brockless, Safehouse 1, Peckham, London and The Raveningham Centre, Norfolk.
