New Contemporaries Studio Residency Opportunity at FormaHQ

Part of a new series of exciting opportunities, emerging and early career artists working with live and time-based media are invited to apply to participate in a 12-month Studio Residency at FormaHQ. Applications are open to UK-based emerging or early career artists who have not had access to similar opportunities.

The recipient artist will receive a fully funded studio space measuring 136 sq. ft./17 x 8ft for 12 months in Bermondsey, London between October 2025 and September 2026, and dedicated curatorial and comms support from both New Contemporaries and Forma, as well as access to Forma’s AV equipment and bookable spaces.

Residents are shared into Forma’s events calendar to see what’s coming up and are encouraged to participate in the public programme and to book in their own use of the main events space and Forma’s equipment. We are therefore seeking interest from prospective artists who will want to engage with and understand the public nature of the building, supporting a dynamic and respectful working environment.

All of Forma’s studios are centrally heated with WiFi and come fitted with individual electricity metres. Occupants have 24-hour access to the building. Each are also fitted with large windows and security grilles that can be open and closed. Studio holders will have the use of a communal kitchen area with basic food preparation equipment and an accessible, all gender toilet. Studio holders may also use the public roof garden during opening hours.

Given the porous nature of FormaHQ, we are considering applications for those working in a dry studio practice only ie: no oil/acrylic painting, casting, etc. that may need to be disposed of or cause fumes. We ask that all studio holders put adequate insurance in place for any items held on site.

Please note that this opportunity includes a fully funded studio space for 12 months as well as dedicated curatorial and comms support, however it doesn’t cover accommodation or living expenses.

This opportunity is funded by Arts Council England.
