New Contemporaries Studio Residency and Bursary with Hospitalfield

–
Natalie Mitchell is the 2026 recipient of the New Contemporaries Studio Residency and Bursary with Hospitalfield.
Natalie’s work explores how histories live within bodies, landscapes and materials. She is interested in the ways memory circulates through place — through voice, movement, shared experiences, touch and trace — and how landscapes can hold echoes of political and personal histories. Her process is often unscripted and begins with walking, recording and gathering fragments that surface stories which might otherwise remain unnoticed.
This is part of a series of exciting artist opportunities. The residency offers an artist dedicated time and space to develop a project or idea, alongside a community of interdisciplinary peers.
What does the residency opportunity comprise?
A fully funded 2-week residency, with accommodation at Hospitalfield House, in Arbroath, Scotland, and full board, with meals prepared by their chef on weekdays.
A £1,000 bursary to cover research and travel.
An additional access and care-givers bursary if applicable.
Workspace, including the recently restored 24-hour access artist studios, your room or within the house and grounds.
