We are excited to announce Young New Contemporaries a newly created educational initiative to widen the participation of young people currently underrepresented in art schools.

Launching in Autumn 2023, Young New Contemporaries has been developed in collaboration with UCL Institute of Education and will be based in their Art, Design & Museology studios. It will support 30 students from London schools following post-16 courses in Art and Design in the process of applying to and settling into Foundation or BA Visual Arts courses, as well as other pathways into employment in the sector.

Run as a two-year pilot, the project will enable participants to pursue further creative study and access a range of cultural activities aimed at developing their engagement and participation in the visual arts. The participants will engage in a range of activities including workshops, talks, portfolio reviews, mentoring and tours of New Contemporaries exhibitions. Led by artists, curators, educators and art workers, with experience working with young people, the sessions aim to build on young people’s cultural experiences and confidence in accessing the visual arts.

Young New Contemporaries is supported by Art Fund Reimagine
