Selectors' Comments
The man with the medals leans on his frame to welcome a visitor, to see all, in a cross section of lived time and existing moment. Real now and real past.
Artist's Statement
The changing patterns in contemporary family life have created an expanding number of elderly people living alone, often with deteriorating health and no family support to hand. The home is regarded as a place of shelter but for some in later life it can become a place of inescapable isolation. Increasingly, the elderly are left on their own.
