 selection

The 2009 exhibition will be selected by a specially-invited panel of artists.

The selection process is organised in two stages:

The team of selectors judges all the applications.

After this stage, New Contemporaries will contact all the unsuccessful applications by the end of March.

The team of selectors judges actual work from a shortlist of artists. New Contemporaries will contact all the shortlisted artists and make arrangements for the collection of their work. New Contemporaries will store all the work selected for the exhibition until the first venue on the tour. All the works not selected for the exhibition will be returned to the artist after completion of the second stage of selection, by the end of May.

We are not able to acknowledge the receipt of applications and no correspondence will be entered into with individuals.

 submission

New Contemporaries will consider work in any fine art medium, including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, print-making, multi-media, performance and live work, video and moving image, computer-based and websites. Selection is based on existing work only.

Proposals for new work will only be considered alongside existing work and all details for proposed works will need to be fully developed. The artist will need to be able to fund and resource the development of any new work themselves.

The initial stage of selection is from the submitted material, so the quality of the documentation of work is very important. Please decide on the best format of documentation for your work.

Completing Your Application

The Application form requests a List of Works giving the title, medium, size and date of each work.

Please ensure that the list on the application form is in the same numerical order as the list of works on the CD-R or DVDs.

Digital images

Applicants working in 2D and 3D media should send a maximum of 10 digital images.

All the digital images must be J-Peg format only. Other formats will not be accepted (no PowerPoint, Photoshop, Tiffs).

All J-Pegs should be in RGB mode. It is essential that the J-Pegs be formatted so that they can be viewed on a Mac.

Clearly label both the CD-R and its case with your name.

The images will be projected for the selection. It is recommended that no image should exceed 1024 pixels wide, landscape format or 768 pixels high, for portrait formats.

Useful Tip: Please check that you have burned the images successfully onto the CD-R before sending it in, preferably by checking the disc and its files on a Mac computer.

Applicants working in time-based media should provide a video DVD only. We are unable to view videos in other formats (no VHS tapes or QuickTime or AVI files etc on CD-R).

You may submit a maximum of 3 works.

If any work is longer than 5 minutes, you should send a short extract of that work for viewing by the selectors.

Please specify how you intend to present the work for exhibition: single monitor, video projection, installation formats.

Clearly label both the CD-R and its case, with your name.

Useful Tip: Do not send video documentation of work in other media such as painting or sculpture. Do not send stills from a video as well as the video itself.

Please supply sound works in mp3 or AIF/WAV format on CD-R only.

Submit short extracts where applicable.

Proposals
